Evaluation Criteria

The evaluation of applicants to tenure-track positions will be completed in four stages: 1) applicants to candidates, 2) candidates to semi-finalists, 3) semi-finalists to finalists, and 4) finalists to final recommendation to the Dean. A list of evaluation criteria is provided for each stage.

Applicants to Candidates:

Minimum Requirements 

  • Requirement: Ph.D., Ed.D., M.F.A., etc.: yes/no/ABD/Will complete before start of appointment
  • Requirement: Cover Letter: yes/no
  • Requirement: Curriculum Vitae: yes/no
  • Requirement: Research Statement: yes/no
  • Requirement: Teaching Statement: yes/no
  • Requirement: Inclusive Excellence Statement: yes/no

Inclusive Excellence Statement*:

With the Inclusive Excellence Statement, we aim to learn about the candidates’ perspective on their past and present contributions to and future aspirations for promoting and engaging with a diverse student population. Concrete examples should fall under the areas of:

  1. Awareness and understanding
  2. Experience and commitment
  3. Future plans

Candidates to Semi-Finalists:

Candidates will be selected as semi-finalists based on the following criteria and evidenced by the cover letter, curriculum vitae, inclusive excellence statement, evidence of teaching, unofficial transcript, evidence of research (scholarship), etc. (any other required by the search committee).

A recommendation for a tenure-track hire will be based on the required and preferred qualifications and evidenced by the items listed above (semi-finalists to finalists). Additional sources of evidence are the following: (1) letters from three references, (2) finalist interview, and (3) feedback from faculty.
