Downloading and Printing Excel Files

This article contains tips for troubleshooting common issues that occur while attempting to download and print Excel files from the campus portal.

Do not use Internet Explorer as it is not supported. To access the campus portal, please use:
PC: Microsoft Edge, Chrome, or Firefox
Mac: Safari, Chrome, or Firefox

PC Users
Nothing happens after clicking on the Excel icon

If you click on the Excel icon and nothing happens, you may have a pop-up blocker issue. Many users have the pop-up blocker turned on as a security feature. In order to successfully download an Excel spreadsheet from the campus portal, first disable your pop-up blocker.

1. Go to Windows Settings.

A. Open your Start menu by clicking the Windows icon.
B. Click on the gear icon to open Settings.

2. Click Apps.

3. Click on Default apps. Then, click Choose default apps by file type.

4. Scroll down the list until you find the .xls file type.

5. If Excel is not the app associated with the .xls file type, click on the app icon. Then, select Excel from the prompt.

6. Confirm that Excel has been set as the default app for .xls files.

1. Click Yes to open the file.

In general, you should verify the source of the file first before opening it. Excel files from the portal are safe. The issue stems from compatibility issues between the file and the version of Excel being used.

Mac Users
Configuring pop-up blockers for Mac (Safari and Firefox)
