Associated Class is tied to the Section Number and should be the same number as the Section Number but without any leading zeros. E.g., For Section Number 01, type in â1â for Associated Class Number.
Associated Class Tips:
- If Section Number is 1A then Associated Class Number should be 100, 1B=101, 1C=102, 1D=103, 1E=104, 1F=105, 1G=106, 1H=107, 1I=108, 1J=109, 1K=110, 1L=111, 1M=112, 1N=113, 1O=114, 1P=115, 1Q=116, 1R=117, 1S=118, 1T=119, 1U=120, 1V=121, 1W=122, 1X=123, 1Y=124, 1Z=125
Multi-component Course Tips:
- Non-Enrollment Sections will have the Associated Class Number set to the Enrollment Section Number
Asynchronous refers to online instruction that does not meet on specific days/times.
Bichronous refers to online instruction that is a mix of asynchronous (does not meet on specific days/times) and synchronous (meets on specific days/times).
Career in Coursedog is used to identify undergraduate courses, postbaccalaureate courses, and Extended Education courses.
When building new classes, be sure to select the correct Career to indicate whether the class is state-support or self-support based on the table below.
Class Offering | Select Career: |
---|---|
State-Support | Undergraduate or Postbaccalaureate |
Self-Support | Extended Education |
The Class Status refers to the status of a class section in Coursedog such as active or cancelled. This field controls whether students can see and enroll in the class section.
Class Status | Description |
---|---|
Active | The class is visible and students can self-register. |
Tentative | The class will be set to Active at a future date. |
Stop Further Enrollment | The class is waiting to be cancelled. |
Cancelled | The class will no longer be offered. |
Course refers to an academic course such as MATH 101. A class (or class section) is a specific offering of a course during a specific term, such as Mondays/Wednesdays from 10 am - 11:15 am during the Spring 2025 term.
Below are a few other examples of courses and their class offerings.
Course | Class |
---|---|
MATH 101 | Section 01: Mondays/Wednesdays 10 am - 11:15 am |
MATH 101 | Section 02: Tuesdays/Thursdays 1 pm - 2:15 pm |
HUSR 201 | Section 01: Mondays/Wednesdays/Fridays 8 am - 8:50 am |
HUSR 201 | Section 02: Tuesdays/Thursdays 8:30 am - 9:45 am |
Department Consent indicates whether the student requires a permit from the department to enroll in the class section.
Enrollment Capacity is the maximum number of seats offered by the class.
For multi-component courses, the Enrollment Section is the class section that students will enroll in. When the student enrolls in an Enrollment Section, they will automatically be enrolled in the associated Non-Enrollment Section.
Hybrid classes are class sections that are being offered as a mix of in-person and online instruction.
Tips for determining which APDB Learning Mode to use for Hybrid classes:
Question 1: Is this section Mostly Online? (50%-99% Online)
- Pick between learning modes 03 and 04
- Are the online meetings Asynchronous or Synchronous?
- Asynchronous: pick 03
- Synchronous: pick 04
Question 2: Is this section Mostly In-person? (21%-49% Online)
- Pick between 05 and 06
- Are the online meetings Asynchronous or Synchronous?
- Asynchronous: pick 05
- Synchronous: pick 06
The APDB Learning Mode or Modality of the class section can be in-person, online, or a mix of both (hybrid).
Question 1 | Question 2 | |
---|---|---|
|
Is the online aspect of the class asynchronous, synchronous, or both?
|
|
Modality | Percentage of Online Instruction Time | APDB Learning Mode |
Fully Online | 100% | 01 Asynchronous 02 Synchronous 10 Bichronous |
Mostly Online, Hybrid | 50-99% | 03 Asynchronous 04 Synchronous 11 Bichronous |
Mostly In Person, Hybrid | 21-49% | 05 Asynchronous 06 Synchronous |
In Person | 0-20% | 09 Face-to-Face |
Location refers to the physical location associated with the class section. It does NOT refer to the Room where the class section is being held.
Most courses will have FULLERTON as the Location, but you can also choose options such as ABROAD or OFFCAMPUS.
A meeting pattern is a set of days/times when a class section meets.
A class section may have multiple meeting patterns.
In-Person Example:
ENGL 101 Section 01:
Meeting Pattern: Mondays, Wednesdays 10 am - 11:15 am
Hybrid Class Example:
ENGL 101 Section 02:
In-Person Meeting Pattern 1: Mondays 10am - 11:15am SGMH1502
Online Meeting Pattern 2: 10am - 11:15am ZOOM
Multi-component courses have more than one component such as a Lecture/Lab. Each component must be created as a class section in Coursedog, with one class section designated as the Enrollment Section and the other class section(s) designated as Non-Enrollment Sections.
Enrollment Sections are tied to their associated Non-Enrollment Sections, so when the student enrolls in the Enrollment Section, they are automatically enrolled in the associated Non-Enrollment section(s).
For multi-component courses, Non-Enrollment Sections are the class sections that students will automatically be enrolled in when they enroll in the Enrollment Section.
Phases are the different stages for the class schedule life cycle. The class schedule for each term will go through all five phases.
Department schedulers can only make (or request) changes during the Build Phase (Phase 2) and Request Phases (Phase 3 and 4).
View Scheduling Office Production Calendar for specific dates and deadlines.
TERM SETUP | BUILD PHASE | REQUEST PHASE | ARCHIVE | |
---|---|---|---|---|
Scheduling Office only | Department schedulers build the class schedule in the Section Dashboard | Changes are now made through the Requests page. Dean's office sign-off required. |

Phase 1 | Phase 2 | Phase 3 | Phase 4 | Phase 5 |
Term Roll | Open Scheduling | Administrative Review | Go Live | Census |
Room is the building/room number where the class section is being held on campus.
For class sections being held online, you can use the Room field to select Web (online, asynchronous) or Zoom (online, synchronous).
Schedule Print controls whether the class section is visible (public).
You can think of this as whether the class section would be printed in a physical class schedule book.
The Section Number is the two digit code assigned to a class section being offered for a specific term.
For example, if two class sections of ANTH-101 are being offered during Spring 2025, the first will be ANTH-101 Section 01 and the second will be ANTH-101 Section 02.
Section Number Tips:
- This field will default to the next available section number.
- Section numbers must be exactly two digits: 01, not 1.
- Section numbers cannot exceed 99.
- If there are over 99 sections, the numbering must start over as: Section 1A, 1B, 1C, etc.
Session refers to a date range for class sections to be offered during a term. When you select a session for a class section in Coursedog, you will see the specific dates for the session.
For example, the Regular Academic Session for the Fall and Spring terms are 15 weeks long. But Session A of the Summer Term is 5 weeks long.

The Status column on the Section Dashboard indicates if there are any scheduling conflicts for the class section.
The green checkmark means that there are no scheduling conflicts for that class.
The yellow triangle with an exclamation point is a warning. Note that some circumstances such as combined sections will trigger a warning, so use your discretion to determine if the warning is something that requires attention. Contact [email protected] if you're unsure about how to handle a warning.
The red circle with a minus sign indicates an error. Errors must be resolved in order to save the section.
Synchronous refers to online instruction that meets on specific days/times.
CSU Fullerton offers classes in four semester terms: Winter, Spring, Summer, Fall.
Each semester may offer state-support and/or self-support classes.
Term | Possible Class Offerings |
