Adding a Fully Online or Hybrid Class

This article covers the specifics of creating a fully online or hybrid class in Coursedog Scheduling.

Identifying the Learning Mode and Hybrid Settings

  • Is the class Fully Online, Hybrid, or In Person?
  • Within Hybrid classes, there are two types: Mostly Online or Mostly-In Person.

Is the online aspect of the class asynchronous, synchronous, or both?

  • Asynchronous: online instruction, no scheduled days/times
  • Synchronous: online instruction, zoom at scheduled days/times
  • Bichronous: online instruction, combination of asynchronous and synchronous delivery.

Tips for determining Hybrid Settings

Tips for determining which APDB Learning Mode to use for Hybrid classes:

Question 1: Is this section Mostly Online? (50%-99% Online)

  • Pick between learning modes 03 and 04
  • Are the online meetings Asynchronous or Synchronous? 
    • Asynchronous: pick 03
    • Synchronous: pick 04 

Question 2: Is this section Mostly In-person? (21%-49% Online)

  • Pick between 05 and 06
  • Are the online meetings Asynchronous or Synchronous?
    • Asynchronous: pick 05
    • Synchronous: pick 06 

What do you want to create?

Fully Online Asynchronous (WEB/ASYN) Section

This is pulled from the Course Catalog. If class does not have the WEB-APPROVED attribute, then online class offerings are not allowed. 

3.1. Check that the Class Attributes and Instruction Mode have updated to identify the class as Fully Online.
4.1. Click + Meeting Pattern to add a meeting pattern for the class
4.2. Select the ASYN and No Days No Times meeting pattern.

You can filter by ASYN or No Days to find this meeting pattern.

4.3. The Room will populate as WEB and there will be no days or start/end times.
4.4. If you click Set Details, ASYN should appear in the Meeting Pattern Code field.
5.1. Click + Section Note to add a section note.
5.2. Click in the Note Number field to select a pre-created note.
5.3. Enter 1898 in the search field. Then select the 1898-Asynchronous Online note.
  1. Enter 1898 in the search field.
  2. Then select the 1898-Asynchronous Online note.
5.4. The 1898-Asynchronous Online note will be added for the section.
6.1. Click Add Section when you are ready to save your changes.
6.2. You will see a pop-up message at the bottom of the screen indicating the section was successfully created.
Fully Online Synchronous (WEB/SYNC) Section

This is pulled from the Course Catalog. If class does not have the WEB-APPROVED attribute, then online class offerings are not allowed. 

3.1. Check that the Class Attributes and Instruction Mode have updated to identify the class as Fully Online.
4.1. Click + Meeting Pattern to add a meeting pattern for the class
4.2. Select the meeting pattern for the class.
4.3. The meeting pattern is added and the Room should automatically be set to ZOOM.
4.4. If the Room is NOT automatically populated, click into the Room field.
4.4.1. Search for "ZOOM" and then select the ZOOM entry.
  1. Search for "ZOOM."
  2. Then select the ZOOM entry.
5.1. Click + Section Note to add a section note.
5.2. Click in the Note Number field to select a pre-created note.
5.3. Enter 1903 in the search field. Then select the 1903-ALL Online Synchronous note.
  1. Enter 1903 in the search field.
  2. Then select the 1903-ALL Online Synchronous note.
5.4. The 1903-ALL Online Synchronous note will be added for the section.
6.1. Click Add Section when you are ready to save your changes.
6.2. You will see a pop-up message at the bottom of the screen indicating the section was successfully created.
Fully Online Bichronous Section

This is pulled from the Course Catalog. If class does not have the WEB-APPROVED attribute, then online class offerings are not allowed. 

3.1. Check that the Class Attributes and Instruction Mode have updated to identify the class as Fully Online.

Bichronous classes (mix of ASYN and SYNC) must be built in the following way:

  1. The SYNC meeting patterns WILL ALWAYS be listed first
  2. ASYN patterns WILL ALWAYS be listed last
4.1. Click + Meeting Pattern to add the synchronous meeting pattern.
4.2. Select the meeting pattern for the synchronous portion of the class.
4.3. The synchronous meeting pattern is added. Click + Meeting Pattern to add the asynchronous meeting pattern.
4.4. Select the ASYN and No Days No Times meeting pattern.

You can filter by ASYN or No Days to find this meeting pattern.

4.5. Both meeting patterns are now added. Click into the Room field for the synchronous meeting pattern.
4.6. Search for "ZOOM" and then select the ZOOM entry.
  1. Search for "ZOOM."
  2. Then select the ZOOM entry.
4.7. Then click into the Room field for the asynchronous meeting pattern.
4.8. Search for "WEB" and then select the WEB entry.
  1. Search for "WEB."
  2. Then select the WEB entry.
4.9. Both meeting patterns have been added with their respective rooms.
5.1. Click + Section Note to add a section note.
5.2. Click in the Note Number field to select a pre-created note.
5.3. Enter 1744 in the search field. Then select the 1744-ALL WEB-OF: Fully Online note.
  1. Enter 1744 in the search field.
  2. Then select the 1744-ALL WEB-OF: Fully Online note.
5.4. The 1744-ALL WEB-OF: Fully Online note will be added for the section.
6.1. Click Add Section when you are ready to save your changes.
6.2. You will see a pop-up message at the bottom of the screen indicating the section was successfully created.
Hybrid Section

This is pulled from the Course Catalog. If class does not have the WEB-APPROVED attribute, then online class offerings are not allowed. 

3.1. Select the appropriate Hybrid APDB Learning Mode from the drop-down menu.

Use the questions and matrix at the top of this article to determine which Hybrid APDB Learning Mode is appropriate for this class (03, 04, 05, 06 or 11).

3.2. Check that the Class Attributes and Instruction Mode have updated to identify the class as the correct Hybrid learning mode.

Hybrid classes must be built in the following way:

  1. In-person meetings will ALWAYS be listed first
  2. For the subsequent online meeting pattern(s):
    • (if applicable) List the synchronous online meeting pattern.
    • (if applicable) The asynchronous online meeting pattern will ALWAYS be listed last.
4.1. Click + Meeting Pattern to add the in-person meeting pattern.
4.2. Select the in-person meeting pattern for the class.
4.3. The in-person meeting pattern is added. Click + Meeting Pattern to add the online meeting pattern.
4.4. If the online meeting pattern is synchronous, select the appropriate meeting pattern.
4.5. If the online meeting pattern is asynchronous, select the ASYN and No Days No Times meeting pattern.

You can filter by ASYN or No Days to find this meeting pattern.

4.6. Both meeting patterns are now added. Click into the Room field for the in-person meeting pattern.
4.7. Select the room you want to assign to the in-person component of this class.
4.8. Then click into the Room field for the online meeting pattern.
4.9. If online synchronous, search for “ZOOM” and then select the ZOOM entry.
  1. Search for "ZOOM."
  2. Then select the ZOOM entry.
4.10. If online asynchronous, search for “WEB” and then select the WEB entry.
  1. Search for "WEB."
  2. Then select the WEB entry.
4.11. All meeting patterns have been added with their respective rooms.

5.1. Click Add Section when you are ready to save your changes.
