Direct Edits Quick Start Guide

This article is a quick start guide for direct edits in Coursedog.

Adding a New Section

  • Class Status: controls whether students can see and enroll in the class
    • Select Active, Tentative, Stop Further Enrollment, or Cancelled
  • Section Number
    • Must be two digits (01, not 1)
    • Associated Class Number will auto-populate to match, unless it is a multi-component course
  • Schedule Print: controls whether the class is visible
    • Select Yes or No
  • Modality:
    • Select the appropriate fully online / hybrid / in person mode
  • Session: controls the semester start and end dates
    • Regular Academic Session (15 weeks), Mini Session (5 weeks), etc.
    • For Summer: select from Session A through Session E, or SPC
    • For Winter: select Session A or Session B, or SPC
  • Meeting Pattern
    • Click [+ Meeting Pattern] button and select the desired days/times
    • Click strikethrough clock icon to select custom days/times instead
    • If online asynchronous, Room = WEB
      • If you click the “Set Details” button, Meeting Pattern Code = ASYN.
    • If online synchronous, Room = ZOOM
  • Instructor
    • Click [+ Instructor] button.
    • In the Search Bar, type in the instructor name or CWID
    • Click on the desired instructor in the search results.
    • Click [Set Instructor Roles and Details] button.
    • Click on the Instructor to expand the carrot.
    • Click Set Instr. Meeting drop-down and assign the instructor to the appropriate meeting pattern(s).
    • Click Close.
  • Class Notes
    • Select a Note Number from the drop-down or type in the Free Format Text Box.
    • Be sure to click [+Section Note] when adding multiple notes.  A Note Number and Free Format cannot be listed on the same note.

Enrollment Settings

  • Enrollment Capacity: maximum number of seats offered by the class for enrollment
  • Waitlist Capacity: number of seats available on the waitlist
  • Department Consent Required: whether the student requires a permit to enroll
    • Select No Special Consent Required or Department Consent Required

Credits

  • For graduate level courses (500-level or above):
    • Min and Max Units must be the same value. (Be sure to correct this for variable unit courses)
    • Set FA Units to 1.5x
