Petition for General Education Variation
This guide is designed to walk you through the Petition for General Education Variation form process.
Below you will find the process map along with the steps involved for each role.
Step 1:
Access AEM Forms. View instructions on accessing the Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) Inbox.
Type the keyword 'general' into the search bar.
Step 2:
Click on the airplane icon to launch the form.
Step 3:
Enter the expected date of graduation (semester and year) into the Expected Date field.
If you do not know your expected graduation date (semester and year), you can check the Not Known Yet checkbox.
Step 4:
Click on the Petition Statement tab.
Step 5:
Read the important information at the top of the Petition Statement tab.
Step 6:
Note the specific G.E. requirement(s) that you are seeking an exception for in the Item 1 field.
Step 7:
Note the alternative course (Department, Course Number and Semester taken) you are requesting to be used for the requirement fulfillment.
Step 8:
Note the reason it is appropriate for the deficiency listed in Item 1.
Step 9:
Scroll down to Item 3 to fill in the following fields:
(a) when and how you became aware that you had not met the requirement
(b) description of other options for meeting the requirement
(c) if you have sought Academic Advisement
(d) reason you are not able to take the course at this time
Step 10:
Read the deadline information.
Step 11:
Click on the Supporting Documents tab.
Step 12:
Click on the Attach button to attach documents.
Note: Attachments can only be a pdf.
Remove attachment:
To remove a attachment, click on the corresponding 'X'.
Step 13:
Click on the Signature and Acknowledgement tab.
Step 14:
Check the acknowledgement checkbox to indicate that you have completed the form.
Your signature (name) will populate upon checking the box.
Step 15:
Click the Submit button.
The page will refresh to a submission confirmation.
After the review by the Grad Unit Evaluator,
If your petition recommendation is Need further Review it will be routed to Academic Advising.
If your petition recommendation is Approved, it will be routed to Petition Coordinator Review.
Step 1:
Click on the Grad Unit Evaluators Review link that corresponds to the individual you are working on.
Step 2:
Click on the Proceed button.

Step 3: View attached documents
Attached documents:
Attached documents are available in the left hand side panel.
Viewing attached documents:
You can click on the 'eye' icon to view a document.
Closing side panel:
To close the side panel, click on the caret at the top right of the side panel.
To view attachments at a later time, click on the caret at the top right of the side panel to open the side panel.
Step 4:
Review the information provided in the Student Information and Petition Statement tabs.
Step 5:
Click on the Signature and Acknowledgement tab.
Step 6:
Scroll down to the Grad Unit Evaluator Certification section.
Step 7:
Check the acknowledgement checkbox to indicate that you have completed the review.
Your signature (name) will populate upon checking the box.
Step 8:
Indicate your recommendation by clicking on the appropriate radio dial.
Step 9:
Add a comment in the Comments field.
Note: This is a required field.
Step 10:
Click on the Submit button.
Step 11: (Optional)
Add a comment in the Comments(Optional) field.

Step 12:
Click on the Confirm button.

Step 13:
Click on the OK button.

After the review by the Grad Unit Evaluator,
If your petition recommendation is Need further Review it will be routed to Academic Advising.
If your petition recommendation is Approved, it will be routed to Petition Coordinator Review.
Step 1:
Click on the Academic Advisor Review link that corresponds to the individual you are working on.
Step 2:
Click on the Proceed button.

Step 3: View attached documents
Attached documents:
Attached documents are available in the left hand side panel.
Viewing attached documents:
You can click on the 'eye' icon to open a document for viewing.
Closing the side panel:
To close the side panel, click on the caret at the top right of the side panel.
To view attachments at a later time, click on the caret at the top right of the side panel to open it.
Step 4:
Click on the Student Information and Petition Statement tabs to review information provided.
Step 5:
Click on the Signature and Acknowledgement tab.
Step 6:
Scroll down to the Academic Advisor Certification section.
Step 7:
Check the acknowledgement checkbox to indicate that you have completed the review.
Your signature (name) will populate upon checking the box.
Step 8:
Indicate your recommendation by clicking on the appropriate radio dial.
Step 9:
Add comments in the Comments field.
Note: this is a required field.
Step 10:
Click on the Submit button.
Step 11: (Optional)
Add a comment in the Comments(Optional) field.

Step 12:
Click on the Confirm button.

Step 13:
Click on the OK button.

Step 1:
Click on the Associate Dean Review link that corresponds to the individual you are working on.
Step 2: View attached documents
Attached documents:
Attached documents are available in the left hand side panel.
Viewing attached documents:
You can click on the 'eye' icon to open a document for viewing.
Closing the side panel:
To close the side panel, click on the caret at the top right of the side panel.
To view attachments at a later time, click on the caret at the top right of the side panel to open it.

Click on the Student Information and Petition Statement tabs to review information provided.
Step 4:
Click on the Signature and Acknowledgement tab.
Step 5:
Scroll down to the Associate Dean Certification section.
Step 6:
Check the acknowledgement checkbox to indicate that you have completed the review.
Your signature (name) will populate upon checking the box.
Step 7:
Indicate your recommendation by click on the appropriate radio dial.
Step 8:
Add a comment in the Comments field.
Note: This is a required field.
Step 9:
Click on the Submit button.
Step 10: (Optional)
Add a comment in the Comments(Optional) field.

Step 11:
Click on the Confirm button.

Click on the OK button.

After the review by the Petition Coordinator Review,
If your petition recommendation is Deny or No Action Needed it will be routed to Records Review.
If your petition recommendation is Approved, it will be routed to TDA Review.
Step 1:
Click on the TDA Review link that corresponds to the individual you are working on.
Step 2:
Click on the Proceed button.

Step 3: View attached documents
Attached documents:
Attached documents are available in the left hand side panel.
Viewing attached documents:
You can click on the 'eye' icon to open a document for viewing.
Closing the side panel:
To close the side panel, click on the caret at the top right of the side panel.
To view attachments at a later time, click on the caret at the top right of the side panel to open it.
Step 4:
Review the information provided in the Student Information and Petition Statement tabs.
Step5:
Click on the Signature and Acknowledgement tab.
Step 6:
Scroll down to the TDA Reviewer Certification section.
Step 7:
Check the acknowledgement checkbox to indicate that you have completed the review.
Your signature (name) will populate upon checking the box.
Step 8:
Indicate your recommendation by click on the appropriate radio dial.
Step 9:
Add a comment in the Comments field.
Note: This is a required field.
Step 10:
Click on the Submit button.
Step 11: (Optional)
Add a comment in the Comments(Optional) field.

Step 12:
Click on the Confirm button.

Step 13:
Click on the OK button.

Step 1:
Click on the Records Review link that corresponds to the individual you are working on.
Step 2:
Click on the Proceed button.

Step 3: View attached documents

Attached documents are available in the left hand side panel.

Step 4:

Click om the Signature and Acknowledgement tab.
Step 6:
Scroll down to the Records Certification section.
Step 7:
Check the acknowledgement checkbox to indicate that you have completed the review.
Your signature (name) will populate upon checking the box.
Step 8:
Add a comment in the Comments field.
Note: This is a required field.
Step 9:
Click on the Submit button.
Step 10: (Optional)
Add a comment in the Comments(Optional) field.

Step 11:
Click on the Confirm button.

Step 12:
Click on the OK button.
