Challenge By Examination
This article covers how CSUF students can fill out the Challenge By Examination form in AEM. It also covers how department chairs and instructors can review the form once it has been submitted.
Choose your role:
1. Access the Challenge Exam information on the Registrar website. Click on the Challenge Exam Form button.
Open a web browser and access the Challenge Exam information widget on the Registrar website under Registration Forms. If prompted, log in to AEM Forms using your campus username and password.
Then click on the Challenge Exam Form button.
2. Your information will automatically populate on the Student Information tab. Click on the Instructions tab.
3. Review the important information on this tab. Then place a checkmark at the bottom of the tab to indicate you have reviewed it.
8. Click Submit to send the form for approval.
Optional: Use the Comment box to add any comments about this request.
1. You will receive an email notification when there is a Challenge Exam Form for your review. Click View Form to access your AEM Forms Inbox/My Tasks.
If you would prefer, you can follow these instructions to log in to your AEM Forms Inbox/My Tasks.
3. Review the information on the Student Information and Course Details tabs. Then click on the Signature and Acknowledgment tab.

4. Scroll down to the Department Chair Signature and Acknowledgment. Place a checkmark to indicate you have reviewed the form/confirmed the course is eligible for challenge by exam and to add your signature.
5. Choose your Recommend option: Approve or Deny. Enter any optional comments about this request.

7. Click Confirm to confirm your submission.
It is not recommended that you enter comments on this pop-up as the comments will only be viewable in the Workflow Details section of the form.
8. You will see a confirmation that your task was successfully submitted. Click OK. You're done!
The form will automatically be closed and you will be taken back to your My Tasks screen.

2.1. Make arrangements with the student to take the challenge exam. Then grade the exam with a letter grade or credit/no credit.
3.1. Return to the email notification and click View Form to access your AEM Forms Inbox/My Tasks. Or access your AEM Form Inbox/My Tasks from the campus portal.
If you would prefer, you can follow these instructions to log in to your AEM Forms Inbox/My Tasks.
3.4. Scroll down to the Instructor Signature and Acknowledgment. Place a checkmark to indicate you have reviewed the form/administered the exam and to add your signature.
3.5. Type the date when the challenge exam was administered. Or click on the calendar icon to select the date from a pop-up calendar.
3.6. Enter the grade the student earned on the exam: either Passed (Credit)/Not Passed (No Credit) or a letter Grade.
- If grading as Credit (CR)/No Credit (NC), select either Passed or Not Passed.
- If grading as a letter Grade, enter the grade received.
- Optional: enter any comments about this request.
3.8. Click Confirm to confirm your submission.
It is not recommended that you enter comments on this pop-up as the comments will only be viewable in the Workflow Details section of the form.
3.9. You will see a confirmation that your task was successfully submitted. Click OK. You're done!
The form will automatically be closed and you will be taken back to your My Tasks screen.
