Updating Diploma Name

This guide shows the online process for changing your diploma name before graduation.

A primary name is your legal name used in certain university records. As a default, your primary name will be used on your diploma. 

If you would like to change the name that appears on your diploma, this guide will walk you through changing your first name and / or adding a middle name on your diploma. 

See the Preferred Name and Pronouns guide for specific instructions on how to add / edit your preferred name.

Please be aware:

  • You are only allowed to change your name once within 24 hours
  • You are only allowed to change your name two times (in total)

Step 1:

Login to the Campus Portal

Logging into the Campus Portal guide.

Step 2:

Click on the Student Homepage tile.

You may be prompted to login and/or authenticate with Duo.

Step 3:

Click on the Academic Records tile.

Step 4:

Click on Apply/Pay for Graduation tab.

Step 5:

The page will refresh to show you the name that will be printed on your diploma if you do not make any changes.

Click the OK button to proceed.

Step 6:

Click one of the methods below to complete updating your diploma name.

A) Update Diploma Name Button

Step 6:

Under the Use this section to update your FIRST Name on the Diploma section.

Click on the Update Diploma Name button.

Step 7:

Enter the name you would like to appear as your first name in the Enter Your New Diploma First Name field.

Enter the name you would like to appear as your middle name in the Enter Your New Diploma Middle Name field.

If there are no changes, please leave the field blank.

Step 8:

Click the Save button.

Step 9:

A window will pop-up giving you the amount of changes for your reference.

Click the OK button to proceed.

The page will refresh to show your new name.

This completes the diploma name update.

Note:

  • You are only allowed to change your name once within 24 hours.
  • You are only allowed to change your name two times (in total.)
B) Preferred NameĀ 

To change a name to your preferred name, you must already have your preferred name on file. 

See the Preferred Name and Pronouns guide for specific instructions on how to add / edit your preferred name if needed.

Step 6:

Click the Diploma Name Type caret.

Step 7:

Select Preferred.

The name will update to show your preferred name.

This completes the diploma name update.

Reminder:

  • You are only allowed to change your name once within 24 hours.
  • You are only allowed to change your name two times (in total.)
  • If you have a preferred name on record, changed it to Preferred, but want to change it back to your Primary name, you may use one of your allowed times to change it back to your Primary name by following the instructions in Update Diploma Name Button.
C) Adding a Middle Name

If you do not have a middle name in your primary or preferred name but wish to include one on your diploma, please use the Update Diploma Name Button to add it immediately after the desired first name.
